At Anchor

I loved the way the entire background of this photo just disappeared and made the red bouys on the boat pop out. It caught the corner of my eye as I was driving to Bonavista. I issued the common cry on our Newfoundland adventure: "Whoa! Photo Opp!!!"

Heart of Life

After I did up this photo, I noticed how much it actually did look like a heart. That wasn't intentional. It was chosen for the intensity of the colour and the fact that even snails and seaweed can be be attractive.

Growing Slowly

Now here's a lesson that we should all take to heart. How often do we think that we're not actually accomplishing much unless we're running around like fools. It would suit a turtle photo with 'GOING' instead of 'Growing'.

Truths

This was taken on one of those nights that you can barely take your eyes off the sky. We were driving home from Gander, doing the best we could to not keep pulling over every two minutes. It was certainly a memorable and remarkable journey.

To Be

Yes, I know - it is a fairly obvious quote for a photo of two bees - not all that imaginative. But at least I resisted the incredible urge to write 'Two Bee or not Two Bee'. By the way - does anyone actually ever answer this question?

Beauty

YES ... he is INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL!!!  Look at the colours and the detail ... he's gorgeous. And yes, I know that not everyone would think so.

Finding Out

This is an evening that will stand out in my memory. The clouds were lit by the midnight moon for hours on end. Reds and deep greens were dispersed amongst the soft billows, making them even more surreal and magical.

Magical Things

I think that sea urchins are particularly magical gifts from the sea. Underneath those ugly prickles is the most intricate, beautiful design. They would appear to be so delicate and fragile but they withstand the winds & weather and a thousand pecks from the gulls.

Simplify

That seems to be the cry of the latter part of our lives.  The first part tends to be rushing and bustling around, gathering and accumulating.  The next part is when we come to realize that simplification is quite often the answer.

Launch Yourself

I thought that it might be handy if you were launching yourself on a wave, to have a buoy.  This collection that I found hanging on the side of a building in Newfoundland, looked like a bunch of party balloons to me. Buoy, life's one big party.

A-fishin'

Henry David Thoreau - great depths of eloquent wisdom from that man.  And yet he can still be homey and down to earth and leave 'a-fishing' as a word for eternity. It's a good word.

The Depths

This guy is looking like he doesn't intend to use any feet to test it.  He seems quite content to sit on the rock. If he was going to test it, he wanted to wait until we were long gone.

Naked People

I suppose there is some truth to that. Interesting study on the perception of authority and professionalism with the trend toward the casual workplace dress code. I do agree that one takes someone in business clothes a lot more serious than Bermuda shorts and sandals.

For Always

And that's the thing about friends. Two legged, four legged - doesn't matter - a real friend is for always and always. And always.

Curious

I couldn't resist this photo - makes me smile ;-)  It certainly would have been risque for its time, because after all they are in their underwear. More fabric in those than most outfits nowadays.

Opportunity

Thomas Edison was all about 'opportunity'.  While he was working here in Stratford, Ontario at 19, he invented an automatic telegraph system so he could send a signal each hour while he slept. Ingenious, even though he lost (or almost lost, depending on the source) that particular job.

Miracle

Pablo Casals said 'he' in this quote and I changed it to she.  He/she - the sentiment is the same. I'm sure Pablo would agree with that.

Forest

Some of the roads in Ireland were purely magical. Especially the ones that were carved out of the forest.  They definitely made you want to follow them to see what adventure awaited just beyond.

Tired

Is there a single one of us mothers who don't get to feeling like this at times?cIt's a tall order to love without getting tired.  Even Mother Teresa knew that.

Conflict

These two big and beautiful bald eagles were circling together, protecting their nest. The little guy in the middle came after them. Perhaps he had his own nest to protect, but more likely he was just on a power trip.

Shoot Higher

It sometimes takes a long time to understand this concept. When we do get to the point where we stop worrying about everyone else, it feels good. Doesn't it?

Both Sides

Sure, technically it's the same water but it could be quite different. The only way it would be exactly the same is if it were totally still. But I suppose I get what they're saying.

Thousands of Candles

The most memorable stay that I have ever had in a hotel was here, in Casa Santo Domingo in Antigua, Guatemala.  Built within the ruins of a Monastery from the 1500's, it is like staying in a museum. The 17th century art, hydrangea as big as your head, parrots and pool were beautiful, but it was the thousands of candles lit each night that made it pure magic.

Still

I notice that I am drawn to stillness. I never take pictures of chaos. I do like vibrancy and excitement but I seem to be more deeply drawn to stillness.

Don't Speak

Even the sea is silent some days. Calm and still. And silent.

Wee Smile

Is there anything as sweet, adorable, peaceful and heavenly as a sleeping newborn baby?  Some say that their smile is gas pains, but look at this child. He is definitely not in pain.

Lie Awake

And sometimes the darned old bullfrogs are so loud that I can neither sleep nor think. This fella is one of the culprits. But actually, I'm not complaining - it's a happy summer sound.

Praise

Sunshine, summer and simplicity... that's what buttercups are to me. And that's what praise should be.... natural, unpretentious and plentiful.  A field full of buttercups, a world full of praise.
